Where It Began
Completing a Diploma in fashion Design ( degree courses didn't exist yet) in the 1990s. The start of a lifelong passion that has taken me through every part of the industry—from designing and manufacturing to wholesaling, retail and now creating a destination for people who love distinctive design.
The Miriam E label, allowed me to develop my own design voice and establish myself within New Zealand's fashion scene.
Later, I founded Construction Co Clothing, a contemporary and grungy streetwear size inclusive (12-30) label that grew to be stocked in boutiques throughout New Zealand and Australia.
My Aesthetic
I have always been drawn to the darker, more romantic side of fashion, with strong gothic and Neo-Victorian influences. Those influences naturally find their way into the styles you see today.
As with many other NZ fashion designers, I have experienced both the highs and the challenges of an ever-changing industry. But remain committed to staying NZ designed and sewn and designed by highly experienced New Zealanders.
Conscious shopping and slow fashion ethics are what have been foundation to both of the labels and a commitment to sustainable and ethical practices, and devoted to being a NZ designer.
Pilgrim Atelier
Pilgrim Atelier reflects and tells the story of my journey transitioning to my real love of Historical Costume, Steampunk and Gothic influences and the interpretation into garments that can be both worn today with shades from the past.
Every stage of my career has led me to this place. From graduating in Fashion Design in the early 1990s, to building fashion labels stocked throughout New Zealand and Australia, to creating Pilgrim Atelier, the passion has never faded.
